This is the 20th year of teaching theatre for Mr. Sheffield and he is excited about reaching this milestone here at AHS! Originally from Temple, Texas, Mr. Sheffield earned both his Bachelor of Science in Education-Theatre and Master of Arts-Theatre Directing, History & Criticism from Baylor University. A large portion of his graduate hours were earned in London, England including workshops at the RSC, NT, and Phoenix Theatres. He was named 2003 HEB Excellence in Teaching: Texas Secondary Teacher of the Year, was a Finalist for the Region IV Texas Teacher of the Year and was the 2003 Humble ISD Teacher of the Year. He began his teaching career at La Marque High School where he taught for 9 years before moving to Kingwood High School where he served as theatre chair for 8 years. He has directed over 50 Main Stage productions including eight musicals. In 2003 Sheffield took KHS to the American High School Theatre Festival in Edinburgh, Scotland and the show received a 5-star review by the Scottish press. In the UIL One-Act Play competition, Mr. Sheffield's shows have been very successful. He has won two State Championships (1998 AAAA-LaMarque: The Hypochondriac and 2003 AAAAA-Kingwood: Black Snow) and has been a State AAAAA Finalist three additional times (2000, 2004, and most recently, 2008 at AHS!!!) His nine Region qualifier shows have placed eight times. Together his nineteen UIL OAP shows have been awarded over 200 individual acting and crew awards, including the State Samuel French Award/Best Actor, State Best Actress, and State Top Technician! Sheffield currently serves on the TETA UIL One-Act Play Advisory Committee. By maintaining high expectations, a rigorous work ethic, and keeping theatre "fun", Sheffield has built two very accomplished and Nationally recognized theatre programs. Working along with Mr. Vincent, Mr. Sheffield looks forward to this same prestige at AHS!
